GARMAN x Elena Vargas
A visual study of confidence, movement and modern Miami life.
Shot over eleven mornings across Little Havana, Virginia Key and a single unremarkable parking garage in Brickell, this series abandons the usual Miami vocabulary. No neon. No poolside. Instead: the fifteen minutes after waking, the walk to the water, the way linen holds heat. Elena worked entirely on film with available light, and we printed the results large enough that the grain becomes part of the subject.
Behind the concept
We started from a refusal. Miami is photographed as a night city, and the people who actually live here know it as a morning one. Everything followed from shooting before the day got loud.
